Jamie Metter Art Educator

Welcome!

My name is Jamie Metter and I teach beginning Drawing and Painting, Adv. and AP Studio Art and Athletics at Elsinore High School.  In my classes I have 9th through 12th graders learning at the same time.

Teaching Philosophy

When children reach a certain age they begin to compare their work to one another and some will become self-conscious of their creations.  Often they feel as if they are not as talented as their peers and give on on their creative impulses.  I believe that students can develop their creative abilities with the guidance of a teacher.  My goal is to provide a safe and stable learning environment in order to enable students the opportunity to build confidence when creating art and reach their full potential as an artist and student.  I believe that if I can install a love of learning about art in each student, they will be able to form intelligent opinions, listen to other peoples ideas, work togther, and they can think critically to better solve problems in their life outside of school.  As a teacher I must push students to think and talk about art, i must engage them to become excited about their projects by creating connections to their life, culture and core subjects.  I will strive to evolve and improve my teaching practices in order to develop enthusiastic independent learners.  It is my job to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all my diverse learners.  I will commit myself to teaching my students to communicate ideas and personal expressions through art, and reach their full potential as productive citizens.

“Arts Education is critical for helping students develop creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities.”
